The European Commission’s JRC informs on chemicals and FCMs
On November 23, 2018, the Joint Research Center of the European Commission published a concise document, From the packet to the pan - keeping harmful chemicals out of your food". The document explains that "anything that comes into contact with food while it is produced, packaged, transported, stored, prepared or consumed must also be safe." The JRC highlights how its researchers have contributed to improving the safety of baby food packaging, developing guidelines for safe recycling of packaging materials and setting quality standards for EU testing laboratories.
This initiative follows the evaluation process of European legislation on food contact materials that was started in October this year by the Directorate-General for Health and Food Quality (DG Sante).
